Pentagon Confirms 18 U.S. Troops Killed and 624 Wounded in Iran Conflict Since February

The Pentagon’s Defense Casualty Analysis System (DCAS) currently lists 18 U.S. service members killed and 624 wounded since the conflict with Iran began on February 28, 2026. This updated tally reflects recent corrections after scrutiny over shifting casualty numbers. DCAS was updated over the weekend to add more than 140 newly recorded wounded personnel, restoring four deaths that had briefly been removed due to reporting changes.

The Pentagon also introduced a new “Overseas Operations” category, which has complicated public tracking of casualties but still confirms the total of 18 fatalities and 624 injuries linked to the Iran conflict.

Breakdown of fatalities:

  • 11 U.S. Army
  • 6 U.S. Air Force
  • 1 U.S. Navy

The revised figures come amid criticism from lawmakers and media outlets who argued that earlier Pentagon updates did not accurately reflect losses despite continued Iranian missile and drone attacks on U.S. bases across the region.
