Bauchi: 33-Year-Old Woman Arrested Over Alleged Death of Co-Wife After Pestle Attack

Bauchi State, Nigeria — September 28, 2026

A 33-year-old housewife, Hauwa’u Haruna, has been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command following the alleged death of her co-wife, 43-year-old Jamila Adamu, during a domestic incident at Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate in Bauchi metropolis.

Police said the incident occurred on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at about 4:05 p.m., involving the two women who were living in the same household with their husband.

What Happened

According to the Bauchi State Police Command, preliminary investigations indicate that Haruna, identified as the second wife, allegedly attacked Adamu during the domestic incident.

Police alleged that Haruna struck Adamu on the forehead, causing her to fall unconscious. Detectives attached to the C-Division of the Bauchi State Police Command were subsequently deployed to the scene after authorities received information about the incident.

The injured woman was rushed to the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, where a medical doctor later confirmed her death, according to the police statement.

Police Arrest Suspect

The police said Haruna was arrested in connection with the incident, while the alleged object involved in the attack was recovered and kept as an exhibit.

The remains of Jamila Adamu were deposited at the hospital mortuary pending an autopsy, according to the police.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.

Police Mention Alleged Hallucinations

In its preliminary account, the police said Haruna allegedly acted while experiencing hallucinations.

However, this remains an allegation contained in the police account and should not be treated as an independently established medical diagnosis. Further investigation is expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The police commissioner also advised families to seek timely medical and psychosocial support for relatives experiencing serious behavioural or psychological difficulties.

Police Warn Against Domestic Violence

The Bauchi State Police Command condoled with the family of the deceased and cautioned members of the public against domestic violence.

The command also urged residents to report serious domestic disputes and threats to the appropriate authorities before situations escalate.
