Bestial and Sickening: Russia Blitzes Kyiv Again, Torches McDonald's Food Warehouse in Twin Drone Strike

Kyiv Region, Ukraine — September 25, 2026

Russia unleashed another punishing wave of drone attacks on Kyiv and its surrounding region on Friday, and this time an American corporate name found itself squarely in the crosshairs — a food warehouse tied to McDonald's, hit not once but twice in the same day, leaving nothing but ash where the facility once stood.

What Happened

Officials say Russian forces struck a food warehouse in the Brovary district of Kyiv region twice within hours of each other. Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration, said the first strike landed around 3 a.m., with a second attack following later that same day. It was the second hit that proved fatal to the building itself — sparking a fire that completely destroyed the food-storage facility.

Tkachenko was blunt about the target, calling out the strike as one aimed squarely at a facility connected to an American company, and stressed there were no military assets anywhere on the premises — this was a warehouse storing food, plain and simple.

Worth clarifying: while the facility was unmistakably hit twice in succession, authorities have stopped short of officially labeling it a deliberate "double-tap" strike — the military term for a tactic that specifically targets first responders and rescue crews returning to a bombed site. Some reports are using the phrase loosely to describe the back-to-back timing, but Ukrainian officials have not confirmed that classification for this specific attack.

Zelenskyy Speaks Out

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the strike directly on Telegram, describing it starkly as an attack drone sent against nothing more than ordinary food. He used the moment to hammer home a broader point: Russia, he said, is steadily widening its target list beyond the battlefield — hitting American and international businesses, data centers, internet providers, and the ordinary infrastructure people rely on to simply live their lives, connect with each other, study, and work.

He renewed his call for the international community to match words with action — pairing Ukraine's long-range strike capability with tougher global sanctions to make Russia actually feel consequences for the campaign.

McDonald's Response

For its part, McDonald's confirmed no employees were injured in the strike, and said its restaurants across the region continued operating normally while the company works to assess any disruption to its supply chain.

Part of a Bigger, Bloodier Day

The McDonald's warehouse wasn't the only target hit in Kyiv on Friday — and it wasn't even the deadliest. A separate Russian drone strike slammed into an office building in the capital's Solomianskyi district, killing four people and injuring seven more, including a child. Across the wider assault on the capital, the death toll for the day climbed to five, with at least 27 residents wounded.

Other strikes hit closer to home for ordinary Kyiv residents: a drone struck a 25-story apartment building at the fourth-floor level in Solomianskyi, another hit a residential building in the Pecherskyi district, and a building housing Ukraine's High Council of Justice took a direct hit in Shevchenkivskyi, injuring six.

The Bigger Picture

This is far from an isolated flashpoint. Friday's assault followed a similarly brutal barrage just one day earlier, when Russian strikes across the Kyiv region damaged 14 separate warehouses, 16 private homes, three apartment buildings, and 16 vehicles — with officials at the time also reporting a suspected double-tap strike that killed one person and wounded two others.

The pattern is unmistakable: Russia's drone campaign has increasingly widened its net from purely military and energy targets to civilian logistics, food storage, and everyday commercial infrastructure — a shift Ukrainian officials argue is designed to grind down morale and disrupt daily life as much as it is to achieve any tactical military gain.
