Cambodia Orders African Nationals to Leave by May 31, 2026 or Face Jail and $8,000 Penalty

Cambodia Ends Immigration Waiver for African Nationals

The Government of Cambodia has announced a major shift in its immigration enforcement, declaring that the waiver previously granted to African nationals will officially end on May 31, 2026.

The directive was issued by the General Department of Immigration under the Ministry of Interior and applies to citizens of Ghana, Kenya, Cameroon, Uganda, and other African countries.

According to the notice, all affected individuals must leave Cambodia on or before May 31, 2026, especially those who have already cleared their immigration fines or regularised their status.

What Happens After June 1, 2026

The notice outlines severe consequences for anyone who remains in Cambodia beyond the deadline:

Immediate arrest at airports, residences, workplaces, or any location

Two‑year jail term under Cambodian law

Mandatory $8,000 penalty before being allowed to exit the country

Authorities also stated that from June 1, 2026, Cambodian police will begin nationwide operations to locate and arrest foreigners overstaying their permitted period.

These measures reflect a strict enforcement stance, with the government emphasizing that it will not tolerate violations of immigration laws.
