Audi RS5 and Porsche 911 GTS Blow Red Light, Leaving 84‑Year‑Old Critically Injured

A late‑night street race in Reno, Nevada ended in a devastating multi‑vehicle crash that left several people hospitalized, including an 84‑year‑old man now in critical condition. The collision occurred on June 20 at the intersection of South McCarran Boulevard and South Rock Boulevard, an area residents say has become a hotspot for reckless racing.

According to Reno police, the drivers of an Audi RS5 and a Porsche 911 GTS were racing side‑by‑side at high speed when they ran a red light and violently struck a Toyota pickup crossing legally through the intersection. The impact crushed the pickup and caused severe damage to all three vehicles.

There were six people inside the Toyota, all of whom were transported to the hospital. The most seriously injured was the elderly occupant, who suffered life‑threatening trauma. The juvenile driver of the Porsche and the adult driver and passenger in the Audi were also hospitalized.

Reno’s Major Accident Investigation Team is now reconstructing the crash, reviewing surveillance footage, and interviewing witnesses. Authorities say charges are expected once the investigation is complete, given the extreme negligence involved.

The incident has reignited public frustration over illegal street racing, a growing problem in many U.S. cities. What began as a reckless thrill between two high‑performance cars ended in a tragedy that will impact families for years.
