Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has announced that the first group of 300 Ghanaians evacuated from South Africa amid rising xenophobic tensions will receive immediate government support upon arrival in Ghana.
According to the minister, the evacuees will be provided with a two‑semester bungalow stay allowance to help them settle temporarily, along with transportation support to ensure safe relocation to their respective regions and families.
Ablakwa explained that the assistance is designed to give evacuees stability as they reintegrate into their communities.
The package includes:
Temporary housing support covering two academic semesters
Transportation assistance from the airport to their destinations
Welfare screening and documentation upon arrivalCoordination with social services for vulnerable individuals
The minister emphasized that the government’s priority is to ensure the safety, dignity, and well‑being of all citizens returning from crisis‑affected areas.
